Janet Yassen, LICSW, has provided direct service, consultation, supervision and training nationally and internationally about the issues of violence for over 40 years. Janet is co-founder of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center and Acute Crime Crisis Services Coordinator for the Victims of Violence Program at the Cambridge Hospital, faculty of the Harvard Medical School, and an affiliate of the Center of the Mindfulness and Compassion. She is a practitioner of meditation since 1978. Janet is a per-diem Chaplain of the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center. She is the author of “Preventing Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder,” In C. Figley (Ed.), Compassion Fatigue: Coping with Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder in those who Treat the Ttraumatized York, NY: Brunner/Mazel, 1995. Janet is the recipient of awards for her career in Social Work.
