Jorge Armesto, PhD, Ed.M., C-IAYT, is a bilingual clinical psychologist and yoga therapist in private practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where he serves linguistically and culturally diverse communities. Working within a Buddhist psychology and yogic perspective, his work seeks to understand how multiple sources of oppression and resiliency intersect and inform the lived experiences of people. He is section faculty at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (IMP)’s yearlong certificate program, serves as a consulting psychologist at Bristol Community College Counseling Center in Fall River, Massachusetts, and facilitates professional consultation groups through the Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (SCIP) Certificate Program.
Jorge is passionate about the intersection of psychology, mindfulness, spirituality, and body-focused practices. He believes that we transform suffering by connecting heart, body, mind, and spirit. Exploring ways in which we can be more compassionate toward ourselves and others and connect with our bodies is central to his clinical practice and teaching. As a Certified Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) teacher, Jorge facilitates this 8-week program in various organizations and community settings. As a certified yoga therapist, he facilitates body-focused practices in his teaching and clinical work. He believes that listening to our body's wisdom is essential in promoting overall health.
