Jessika Scogland Bailey, MA, PsyD is a clinical psychologist at the CHA Primary Care Integration Behavioral Health Integration and prior postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion (CMC) where she was an Interdisciplinary Health Equity Scholar and contributing team member to the development of a resilience-focused mindfulness model of care in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Scogland received her masters and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University and her undergraduate degrees in International Affairs and Spanish from Northern Arizona University. Her research, clinical, and teaching areas of interest include mindfulness, mind-body interventions, multiculturally adaptive models of care, group interventions, integrative health psychology, psychooncology, geropsychology, cognitive rehabilitation, neuropsychology, LGTBQ+, and end of life care. She has completed training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness Training in Primary Care (MTPC), Mindful Self Compassion (MSC), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Humanistic and Existential psychotherapy, Multicultural psychology, Meaning Centered Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, and is certified in PTSD evaluation. Her dissertation work focused on a self-compassion based stress management workshop for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Scogland completed her predoctoral internship at the Veteran’s Administration (ENRMVA) with a focus on geropsychology. Prior to that, she received training in psychooncology at UCLA’s Center for Integrative Oncology and in neuropsychology and cognitive rehabilitation at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience - Longevity Center. Dr. Scogland has facilitated various contemplative practices in a diverse range of settings around the world since 2006 and draws from her prior work in in international nonprofit program development and community-based, resilience-focused HIV/AIDS program implementation. Her experiences as a former competitive athlete, yoga and mindfulness instructor and living on several continents around the world inform her worldview and understanding of wellness, incorporating integration of equity-based considerations, mind-body interventions, and of systems-informed approaches to care. Beyond her credentials, Dr. Scogland attempts to infuse lightheartedness into her life and clinical care. Her greatest joys are her family, solitude in nature, outdoor adventure, naps, never-ending learning, giving back, and laughter with friends.
