Internal Family Systems® Workshop:

IFS Therapy for Groups

This innovative workshop introduces participants to a groundbreaking approach to Internal Family Systems (IFS) group therapy, developed through rigorous clinical research at Cambridge Health Alliance by the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion. Participants will learn how to create "brave containers" for therapeutic groups, moving beyond traditional safety concepts to foster genuine healing spaces where all parts and lived experiences are welcome. Through interactive demonstrations of key techniques, including specialized IFS meditation and the unique "Center Practice," attendees will discover practical tools for helping clients notice, name, and work with their parts in a group setting.

Presenters:

Hanna Soumerai, LICSW
PARTS Clinical Director

The workshop showcases a successful model that combines intensive and advanced treatment phases, designed to help clients gradually develop more independence while maintaining access to care when needed. Drawing from research findings and clinical experiences, presenters will share essential insights about facilitating group dynamics, preventing emotional overwhelm, and fostering collective healing. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for implementing IFS in group settings, understanding how group work can help skeptical parts relax, normalize psychic multiplicity, and create lasting therapeutic communities that extend beyond traditional clinical boundaries.

Presenters of this workshop are from CMC’s PARTS research team.
